ART IN THE ICE
An art installation about holding, letting go, and transformation.

Art in the Ice is a temporary site-specific installation by Marija Musja, created during the Estonian winter.
A painting is embedded within a block of ice and placed outdoors, where it becomes part of its surroundings.
At first, the artwork is concealed. Then the conditions begin to change.
As the ice melts, the painting is gradually revealed.
The installation took place in Kadriorg Park,
one of Tallinn’s most significant historic and cultural landscapes.
With Art in the Ice, Marija explores her Force & Release Method beyond the studio.
In her painting practice, she moves between control and release - first building and containing the surface, then allowing it to break open and reveal what could not be planned.
Here, ice becomes the material through which this process takes place. Force holds. Release transforms.
The painting is contained by the ice, but only temporarily. Once the ice begins to melt, control gives way to change.
Marija creates the conditions - then lets time, temperature, light and water take over.
The paintings revealed through the installation were also presented in their original form at K13 Gallery in Kadriorg, Tallinn.
